Commissioning

Commissioning connects your SYNA device to the required equipment and gives you access to the COLIGO app. Choose the network topology that matches your installation, then use either SYNA's Wi-Fi or the connected network to open COLIGO.

Default Network Configuration

SYNA starts with the following network configuration:

  • PoE port: DHCP enabled
  • ETH port: Static IP address 192.168.161.1

The topology descriptions below state whether these defaults can be used or a port must be changed. When a topology requires only one static SYNA port, use the ETH port and leave the PoE port on DHCP.

Network Topologies

The following topologies cover the typical ways to connect a commissioning device, SYNA, and an OPC UA server or PLC.

For every static SYNA port configuration, an IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Gateway are required. Each interface must use a unique IP address, and devices that communicate directly must use compatible network settings.

To change a SYNA port, follow Editing a Port on the System → Network page.

Factory Network with a DHCP Server

Factory network with a DHCP server

  • Use when: The factory network provides a DHCP server.
  • Connect: Connect the commissioning device, SYNA's PoE port, and the OPC UA server or PLC to the factory network.
  • Configure: No change is required. The default PoE configuration uses DHCP, and the DHCP server assigns its network settings.

Direct Connection from SYNA to a PLC

Direct connection from SYNA to a PLC

  • Use when: The OPC UA server or PLC connects directly to SYNA without a shared network.
  • Connect: Connect the OPC UA server or PLC directly to SYNA's ETH port.
  • Configure: Keep the default ETH address 192.168.161.1 if it is compatible with the OPC UA server or PLC. Otherwise, change the ETH port to the required static configuration. Give the ETH port and the OPC UA server or PLC unique addresses in the same subnet. Leave the PoE port on DHCP.

Shared Network without a DHCP Server

Shared network without a DHCP server

  • Use when: The devices share a network that does not provide DHCP.
  • Connect: Connect the commissioning device, SYNA's ETH port, and the OPC UA server or PLC to the shared network.
  • Configure: Keep the default ETH address 192.168.161.1 if it is compatible with the shared network. Otherwise, change the ETH port to the required static configuration. Assign a unique static address in the same subnet to every connected interface. Leave the PoE port on DHCP.

Direct Connections to a Commissioning Device and PLC

Direct connections from SYNA to a commissioning device and PLC

  • Use when: The commissioning device and the OPC UA server or PLC both connect directly to SYNA.
  • Connect: Connect the commissioning device to SYNA's ETH port and the OPC UA server or PLC to the PoE port.
  • Configure: Keep the default ETH address 192.168.161.1 if it is compatible with the commissioning device. Change the PoE port from DHCP to a static configuration compatible with the OPC UA server or PLC.

Accessing the COLIGO App

After selecting a topology and applying any required port changes, access COLIGO through the connected network or directly through SYNA's Wi-Fi.

Through a Connected Network

Use this method when the commissioning device and a configured SYNA Ethernet port are connected to the same network.

  1. Connect the commissioning device to the network or directly to the configured SYNA port.
  2. Open http://syna-<chip-number>/ in a browser. If the hostname is not available, use the IP address assigned to that SYNA port.

For a direct connection to the default ETH port, open http://192.168.161.1.

Directly through SYNA Wi-Fi

Use this method when a port must be configured before access through the connected network is available.

  1. On your computer or mobile device, open the Wi-Fi settings.
  2. Connect to the SYNA access point:
    • SSID: SYNA-<chip-number>
    • Password: EdgeAI4IoT!
  3. Open http://192.168.8.1 in a browser.
tip

Direct Wi-Fi access does not depend on the configuration of the ETH or PoE ports.

Troubleshooting

  • SYNA can take up to five minutes to start. Wait until startup is complete before retrying the connection.
  • For direct Wi-Fi access, confirm that you are connected to the correct SYNA SSID and use http://192.168.8.1.
  • For access through a connected network, confirm that the commissioning device and SYNA are on the same network and that the browser allows access to local devices.
  • If connected devices cannot communicate, check the cables, port status, subnet, and IP addresses. Duplicate IP addresses cause connection failures.
  • If SYNA becomes unreachable after saving port settings, follow Recovering from an Invalid Configuration.
